Consulting an immigration attorney? Clarify these 3 things in the first 5 minutes
How to get the most out of your consultation calls and choose the right attorney
If you’re aiming for merit-based temporary or permanent US visas like O-1, EB2 NIW, or EB1 - chances are you will consult an immigration lawyer at some point to ask that question,
What are my odds of approval for this visa?
99% of immigrants waste these consultation calls with immigration lawyers by asking the wrong questions.
Regrettably, I was one of the 99% too.
Just like most immigrants, I followed what I call the
RESUME FRAMEWORK
Following this framework, the conversations with immigration lawyers go something like this,
"I attended <insert big university>
I work at <insert big company>
I have a bajillion years of experience in <insert field>, and
I have <insert a list of accomplishments that can give a CVS receipt a run for its money>.”
Secretly, we all hope that the sheer weight of our accomplishments will convince the attorney that we are worthy of an EB-1 green card.
But here's the thing: This approach rarely hits the mark.
After hearing our entire spiel, immigration attorneys often go like,
This is because the “Resume Framework”, while good for a job interview, does not cut it for an EB1 evaluation.
Ditch it. Adopt what I call the
PETITION FRAMEWORK
Rather than presenting your profile as a scattered list of accomplishments, reframe your profile by clarifying 3 things that are foundational to your EB1 petition:
Define Your Expertise Field: Identify your realm of expertise – the core field where your skills and influence reign supreme.
Laser Focus on Your Niche: Narrow the lens further to identify your niche or specialized sector within your chosen field.
Magnify Your Unique Contributions: Highlight your original, quantifiably impactful contributions within your niche.
By adopting this strategy, you help your attorney gain a crystal-clear picture of your potential as a person of extraordinary ability.
This streamlines the conversation and, most importantly, frees up precious time that your attorney might have used to clarify these points for you.
Utilize this free time to ask detailed questions, and getting the guidance you need to move your case forward effectively.
Make every consultation call count!
You’ve got this!
